“My son, Max was diagnosed with autism when he was about two years old. He began falling behind other children his age with developmental abilities such as talking and fine motor skills. We applied for funding with The Arc for essential therapies Max required and it covered the cost of his therapies needed such as feeding therapy, play therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy along with therapy supplies for in home use. We began seeing positive development and Max finally started verbally communicating with people when he was about five years old. The therapies Max has received over the years have been essential to his development which he never would have gotten without The Arc’s assistance. My family cannot express the amount of gratitude we have for The Arc’s support over the years. Max is 12 years old now and is able to enjoy many activities kids his age like doing including his favorite hobby, drawing.
This challenge coin was designed to raise awareness for the autism community and represent the Johnson City Police Department.
Max was excited to be a part of the development of the coin when he was asked to draw the Tennessee flag puzzle piece and “AUTISM AWARENESS” which are both displayed on the coin. I would like to personally thank everyone who supports this cause.”
